TYPES OF FSSAI REGISTRATIONS


FSSAI Basic Registration

Eligibility:

  • Small food businesses with an annual turnover of up to ₹12 lakhs.
  • Petty retailers, hawkers, itinerant vendors, temporary stallholders.
  • Small-scale food manufacturers, storage units, transporters, marketers, and distributors.

Scope:

  • Allows small businesses to operate within local jurisdictions.
  • Ensures basic compliance with food safety standards.

Validity:

  • Typically valid for 1 to 5 years.
  • Renewal is required before expiry.

Documentation:

  • Photo ID and address proof of the FBO.
  • Passport-sized photograph.
  • Business details (name, address, contact information).
  • Declaration form.

FSSAI State License

Eligibility:

  • Medium-sized food businesses with an annual turnover between ₹12 lakhs and ₹20 crores.
  • Small to medium manufacturers, storage units, transporters, marketers, distributors, and retailers.

Scope:

  • Permits businesses to operate within a particular state.
  • Ensures compliance with state-level food safety regulations.

Validity:

  • Typically valid for 1 to 5 years.
  • Renewal is required before expiry.

Documentation:

  • Form B (completed and signed).
  • Photo ID and address proof of the FBO.
  • Proof of possession of premises (e.g., rental agreement).
  • List of food categories to be manufactured.
  • Food safety management plan or certificate.
  • Supporting documents (e.g., No Objection Certificate from the local municipality).

FSSAI Central License

Eligibility:

  • Large food businesses with an annual turnover exceeding ₹20 crores.
  • FBOs involved in import and export of food products.
  • Large manufacturers, storage units, transporters, marketers, distributors, and retailers operating in multiple states.
  • Businesses operating at the central level such as ports, airports, and railways.

Scope:

  • Allows operation across multiple states and internationally.
  • Ensures compliance with national and international food safety standards.

Validity:

  • Typically valid for 1 to 5 years.
  • Renewal is required before expiry.

Documentation:

  • Form B (completed and signed).
  • Photo ID and address proof of the FBO.
  • Proof of possession of premises (e.g., rental agreement).
  • List of food categories to be manufactured.
  • Food safety management plan or certificate.
  • Details of directors/partners/proprietors.

  • List of Food Products: Details of the food products to be handled or manufactured.

  • NOC from Municipality or Local Body: No Objection Certificate if required.
  • Partnership Deed/MOA/AOA: For partnership firms or companies.
  • Water Testing Report: If applicable.
  • Import Export Code: If applicable.
FSSAI Central License

PENALTIES UNDER FOOD LICENCE LEGATION

PENALTIES LEVIED BY FOOD LICENSING AUTHORITIES ON FOOD BUSINESS OPERATOR (FBO)


The penalties levied by the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) are outlined in various sections of the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006, and its related regulations. Here's a brief summary of section-wise penalties:

  • Section 50 - General Penalties: Imposes penalties for contravention of provisions not specifically covered under other sections. Penalties can go up to Rs. 2 lakh.

  • Section 52 - Penalty for misbranded food: Covers penalties for selling or distributing misbranded food. Penalties range from Rs. 3 lakh to Rs. 10 lakh.
  • Section 53 - Penalty for misleading advertisement: Addresses penalties for misleading advertisements related to food products. Penalties range from Rs. 10 lakh to Rs. 10 crore.
  • Section 54 - Penalty for unsafe food: Imposes penalties for selling or distributing unsafe food. Penalties range from Rs. 1 lakh to Rs. 10 lakh.
  • Section 55 - Penalty for failure to comply with food safety officer: Deals with penalties for non-compliance with directions of a food safety officer. Penalties can go up to Rs. 2 lakh.
